Fair Jewelry is a fair trade program of Young Focus who runs a school sponsorship program in the Philippines. Young Focus sponsors children and young people from elementary up to college/ university level.
Fair Jewelry sells jewelry, made by these students living in the squatter areas of Manila.
These young people are able to continue their education because, in their free time, they earn some much-needed income by making bracelets, earrings, etc. These items are all original designs, created by our own in-house artist, who in turn has trained the students to make the jewelry.
The jewelry are not only beautiful but also high quality creations, each one skillfully made by hand. In addition to acquiring the skills to make jewelry, these student also learn basic business principles and are involved in the setting up of the webshop.
Since 1992 Young Focus has been helping with the sponsorship of young people from the slums of Manila, so that they can go to elementary school, high school, vocation school, college and university.
The students often need to contribute towards the family income, plus there are the extra food and transportation costs for school. Through Fair Jewelry they can solve these financial problems without having to drop out of school to find a full time job. In other words, they can help their families, cover their costs, and complete their education all at the same time.
There is nothing fairer…
Fair Jewelry is not about selling expensive items made of precious stones. The young people use simple raw materials, transforming these into a beautiful, stylish product. There is nothing fairer: This jewelry is fair to behold, is made on fair principles – the students making these items get a fair chance at finishing their schooling and building on their future – and are sold at fair prices.
These are all our own photos on this site; you also see the students themselves at work or modeling their creations!
